An earthquake of magnitude 8,8 on the Richter scale (IX on the Mercali scale)
and subsequent tsunami beat our country from the Region of Valparaiso to the
Region of Araucanía (147,392 Km2) affecting more than 12,880,000 inhabitants,
which corresponds to 75% of the aggregate population of our country.
